Settlement Day

Well, we finally have a new home.  It was a long day beginning with our final walkthrough at 8 am.  Ben went over everything in the house, how it all works, the warranties, and maintenance requirements.  Had to make a trip to the store to buy sealant for the granite as well as the grout.  This is out of an abundance of caution since Ben couldn't definitely say when it was all sealed so he thought it would be a good idea for us to do that.  We have so much more to do in the house, including seeing about what window blinds we'll want.  But in the end, we loved how all of our choices ended up looking good.  Can't wait to use our deck when the weather warms up.  Later at noon, we actually went to sign all the papers that made it all official.  We were handed our keys to the house and the mail box.  Great feeling.  Next week, after Christmas, we'll have the movers over to get us into the new house.

Almost there

We're 9 days from closing on the house and we stopped by to get a few pictures of the yard before any snow falls and spoils the view.  They were painting our front door so the house was open.  We took advantage of that and let ourselves in to see how it was coming.  Our gas range was now in, as well as all other kitchen appliances.  The washer and dryer are also in.  The stairs have been carpeted and the railings are now stained.  Our French doors now have glass, which we were happy about.  It's really starting to look like a home now and we're very excited.

Our green front door, getting a first coat of paint

The toilet is out of the study and in our 1st floor powder room.

Railings are now stained, leading up to the kitchen.

Our appliances are in!  We have missed having an ice maker.

Another look at those railings.  They go well with the
dark cabinets in the kitchen.

Our gas range and a better look at the backsplash.

Kitchen / dining room.  Lots of sunlight in here.  We'll see how much there
is after they build the homes across the street from us.

We have a Nest temp control unit

The French doors, now with glass.

Our front yard with grass and landscaping.  It's due to
snow this week, so might not have many more pictures
like this one for a while.

Our garage door.

Nobody on either side of our deck, which will be nice.

Now we're cookin' with gas

Our building rep Ben did confirm that we're supposed to have a gas range.  Evidently they've been sending the wrong appliances out to the homes.  He also said they were aware of the crack in the stairs.  We're glad they're communicating promptly with us but we're also glad we managed to get in there and take a look around ourselves.

An indoor update

Things are moving quickly now and we all stopped by the house to get a look at how they're coming along with the interior.  Out of all the houses on our street they are working on, ours was locked but we managed to get one of the trades to open the door from the garage for us.  There are a few concerns like a cracked stair and some holes in the wall but we're still weeks away from the final inspection.  The other thing we're a little confused about is the stove, which we thought would be gas but they have an electric one in there.  We'll need to get clarification on that.  I didn't take any pictures of it but we have sod in the front yard and our landscaping is in.  I don't know how long it will last.  Winter is coming.

Our guest bathroom.  Toilet and sink not yet installed.

Our study.  The toilet for the guest bathroom is in here.
We're not sure about those "French doors" though.  We were fully
expecting to have panes of glass in them.

The cracked top stair leading to 2nd floor.

Kitchen cabinets are in as well as granite!  We like how
this turned out.

Dining room area.

Our new electric range.  No gas?  We'll find out.  In any
case, you can see the backsplash we chose.
